The Rubik's Cube is a three-dimensional mechanical toy, invented in 1974 by the Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik. Rubik originally called the toy "Magic Cube" and licensed it in 1980, and it experienced unprecedented success, first in Germany, where it was declared Toy of the Year in 1980, and then worldwide. By 2005, over 300 million copies of this toy had been sold.
