Sumplete – ChatGPT Puzzle Game

Sumplete – ChatGPT Puzzle Game
OpenAI's ChatGPT invented a new game called complete which has the potential to take off Wordle from the throne. complete is similar to Sudoku, although its rules are different. Players are given grids with numbers that vary in difficulty. The basic one for beginners has three rows and three columns, increasing in difficulty to 4x4, 5x5, 6x6 etc. The most advanced grids are 9x9 and really hard to solve.

Here's how it works: Each cell in the grid has a number, and the end of each row and column also has numbers. To win the game, you must erase the numbers in each cell so that the sum of the remaining numbers gives the target number of each row and column.

There is a trick, of course. When you delete a number in a row, it also disappears from the column it crosses. The 3x3 version is so simple that it ends up being a little disappointing. However, if you are up to the challenge, increase the number of cells in the grid. It gets complicated and addictive very quickly. As the grids get larger, there are more possible combinations of numbers in each row and column that add up to the goals, making it increasingly difficult to find the solution. Those of you up for the ultimate challenge will enjoy the nine by nine grid, as it is not only the largest, but also introduces negative numbers.

The creation of Daniel Tait and ChatGPT began by accident when a developer asked a popular AI chatbot for recommendations for Sudoku-like games. Tait went on to ask ChatGPT if he was capable of designing a logic game similar to Sudoku. After several attempts, ChatGPT came up with the idea of Sumplete and created a version of the game that can be played in 30 seconds with HTML and Javascript. ChatGPT even came up with the name of the game. Tait spent the next few hours polishing the game and integrating it into the website for the public. As for how the idea for Sumplete came about, it seems like ChatGPT combined two games into one. Sudoku is one of its inspirations, but Sumplete also shares several similarities with Picross; just like in Sumplete, in Picross you use clues about the contents of each row and column to identify the exact points on the grid. Only time will tell if Sumplete has the staying power of Wordle, but even if it doesn't, we expect Sumplete won't be the last game made with help from ChatGPT.
