1. To start the game paper.io, select the username you want to use when playing.
2. Select the skin you want to use. You can only get custom skins by sharing the game on Facebook. If you don't, you will have the default dafault skin.
3. Choose a game mode. There are many options. That includes:
- Classic game
- Fast speed -- jet engines
- Slow speed -- turtles are fun too
- Inverted controls -- capable hands
- Small map -- big fun
- Small map + fast speed
4. Use the arrow keys or WASD to move around the map. You can scroll left or right, up or down. On a mobile device, simply swipe in the desired direction.
5. Take as much territory as possible. That's the goal of the game. Use the arrow keys to move your "block" around, outline the area you want to capture, then return to where you started. The area you circled will become yours and will fill with your color.
6. To kill an opponent, run through the 'tail' they leave behind. But be absolutely careful! If an opponent flies through your tail, you will die instantly. You're safe while you're in your color (the space you created), but the moment you jump out of it to gain more territory, your opponent can come through your tail and kill you.
7. Start shooting small areas and don't take up a large area unless you are absolutely sure there is no one else around.
