In Dig Dug, the player assumes the role of a character named Dig Dug (called Taizo Hori in later versions). The goal of the game is to eliminate all the monsters on the screen by digging underground tunnels and fighting them.
The player can destroy enemies in two ways:
- By blowing up the enemy – Dig Dug uses a pump to inflate enemies until they explode.
- By dropping rocks on enemies – The player can dig under large rocks that, when they fall, can crush enemies.
Enemies:
- Pooka – A red round creature with glasses.
- Fygar – Green dragon-like creatures that can shoot fire at the player.
Playability:
The player starts from the surface of the ground and must move through underground levels digging new tunnels. The player must avoid enemies while strategically trying to eliminate all threats.
Each level becomes increasingly difficult, with faster enemies and more complex underground tunnel layouts.
If enemies are not attacked, they can become "ghosts" and freely travel through the ground, making them more dangerous.
Goal:
Each level ends when all enemies are destroyed. The game continues with increasingly difficult levels, and the goal is to score as many points as possible before the player loses all lives.
