Beholder 2 depicts a world where everything is controlled by a single government, with the illusion that organizations are created to help citizens. You play as Evan, a ministry employee tasked with processing citizens' requests. The story begins on a dark note, following the death of Evan's father, but as you spend more time at work and among your colleagues, you discover that there is a much darker truth behind it all.
About the game Beholder 2
There are many games that deal with spying on citizens or processing paperwork in dark regimes. This is the continuation of the series about a strictly controlled state that closely monitors all its inhabitants. As one of the employees, you have to do well enough to avoid punishment, while simultaneously investigating the truth. Time and opportunities for investigation are few, so you have to find the right balance. The destinies of citizens depend on your decisions, so be diligent and careful in revealing the truth, but also in hiding your intentions.
How to play
Beholder 2 is a 2.5D management game where you work for a ministry using the mouse or keyboard. Click and hold the left mouse button to move. To interact with objects, move the cursor over the object, left-click, and then select the available icons.
The goal is to do your job efficiently while investigating the Ministry and the truth about your father's death. All your resources are displayed in the upper right corner of the screen. In the menu, you can view the information you have collected and your inventory. If the Ministry finds out what you are doing, you could lose both your life and the truth you have discovered.
After the main selector, Evan begins his first day at work. While working at the ministry, you must listen to citizens' requests, decide which form they need, which department to refer them to, and choose the appropriate office. By processing requests correctly, you get paid, and mistakes don't earn you anything. If you prove yourself to be a hard worker, your authority and status in the ministry will grow.
Evan has limited free time each day, which he can spend working, researching, or talking to specific people. In his apartment, he can read books, learn new skills, or watch TV to gather additional information. You can choose to be a diligent civil servant or try to expose the dark side of the system. Depending on the decisions you make, Evan can be punished or promoted. The game ends when Evan reaches the end of his chosen path.
Tips and tricks
In this game, the most important resource you manage is time. Evan uses time for everything from earning money to learning new skills. The only way to restore time is to go to sleep. It's also important to be careful with who Evan talks to and what information he shares — anyone can be an informant, and Evan has a family to take care of.
